Woodland Preparatory School Actively Pursues Opening
On February 3, 2020, the Alabama Public Charter School Commission voted to begin the hearing process that could lead to the revocation of Woodland Preparatory School’s charter to open in August of 2020. The Board and personnel involved in establishing Washington County’s first public charter school are now actively preparing for a hearing currently scheduled for March 24, 2020, in Montgomery. This hearing is to examine several key areas of concern outlined in a letter from the Commission to Woodland Prep dated February 18, 2020. The outcome of the hearing will be whether or not the Commission will move forward with the process of charter revocation or outline corrective actions Woodland Prep must take to continue with opening.
It should be noted that many local Washington Co. citizens – either knowingly or by mistake – have shared that Woodland Prep’s charter has already been revoked and the school is in the process of being closed. There are even some citizens that have shared the school buildings are now in the process of destruction rather than construction. But at this time plans for Woodland Prep to open in August of 2020 continue to move forward, as does the construction of the school buildings. Evidence of the continuing construction will be become more apparent as the steel work for the classroom building goes up soon.
For those parents and students seeking an alternative to their students’ current school situation, it is our hope Woodland Preparatory School is an option to be seriously considered.
